Hello, my name’s Devante. I’m a Junior Developer from Liverpool and based in Manchester.
I’ve always had a curiosity in how and why things work and working with Software Engineers in past employment allowed me to see how both creation and understanding went hand in hand, piquing my interest.
With this new found enthusiasm I began self-studying JS but wanted something more structured, leading me to General Assembly. It was at GA that I realised how much fun coding could be, and how I could use JS, React, Python, and more to create a variety of projects ranging from games to full-stack applications. It was possible to push yourself too hard during the course, and this led me to reconnect with meditation, to relieve the pressures and challenges of the day.

This assignment was to build a grid-based game. It was an individual project completed within one week. For my project I built Pac-Man in the theme of Dragon Ball Z.
A 36-hour mock hackathon build. The idea behind the app was based around current climate change and being conscious about our individual impact through shipping items, which saw a huge increase during 2020 and into 2021.
A 9 day group-based assignment handling both the front and backend of an application to be able to deliver a full stack app. We went for a social media idea. Users would be able to sign up for an account and upload their dishes alongside instructions and others would then be able to assign a rating to that meal.
For this project I decided to work as an individual. The project was a full stack application with the backend wrote in Python and the frontend in React. My idea came from the recent boom of independent stores in the North-West of England.
During the bootcamp we covered multiple modules gaining a solid understanding of current industry technologies and a brief feel of what it's like to work in a solo, paired or group setting. As well as working 9 - 5, Monday - Friday, I amassed 400+ hours of homework.
Over saw app developments from start to finish acting as the project manager for each. Client ideas I worked on ranged from a crypto lottery to a delivery servce app. Working alongside Software Engineers here allowed my to get exposure to coding before beginning the GA bootcamp.
I love mountain and rock climbing and have completed the national 3 peaks challenge twice. The first time was awarded and the second a leisure activity.
Meditation has been important to me for the past couple of years and really helps me unwind and de-stress.
I have always enjoyed experiencing new cultures around the world, this love was the reason I moved to Japan for 6 months.
